The name, Bryn Mawr, is Welsh for Big Hill. Its history goes all the way back to 1686 when the land was purchased by Rowland Ellis who named it Bryn Mawr however, it was better known by the name of Humphreysville. With the coming of the Pennslyvania Railroad "Main Line" in 1869, the tract was formally named Bryn Mawr and comprised 283 acres. The Bryn Mawr zip code is much larger and is uniquely located in both Montgomery and Delaware counties. As of the 2000 Census, the Bryn Mawr ZIP code was home to 21,485 people with a median family income of $210,956.  Median home value is approximately $575,000.
